Event Recap: Veterans Career Conversations

On November 11, 2020 (Veterans Day) from 5:00pm-6:00pm, Sheila Lillis and Helen Boyke of The Center for Career and Professional Development hosted its 2nd annual Veterans Career Conversations that offered career guidance and insights post military life.

The lively and engaging virtual roundtable discussion, which was an educational and enjoyable event in honor of our student veterans, allowed panelists fifteen minutes to discuss his or her topic.

Guest speakers were Sergeant First Class, Station Commander of Wallingford Army Medical Recruiting Center, Officer Emilio Jaca. He presented on “Integrating into Civilian Society: Remaining Curious and Open to Exploration”.  Tiffany Daugherty, Vice President – Head of Military & Veterans Outreach with Barclays, presented the following topic, “Marketing your Experience Leveraging the Art of Networking”. The next speaker was Jake Mazza who is a SHU alumni and an Investment Management Consultant with FactSet. Jake’s discussion topic was “The Power of Informational Interviews & Offer Negotiation”.  The final topic of discussion was “Veterans of Wellness: Becoming Your Best Self Now and For the Future” which was presented by Giovanni Roselli (SHU alumni), Owner of Roselli Health & Fitness. At the end of each segment, audience questions were directed to the respective speaker for more information to their specific topic. The event concluded with panelists’ final thoughts to keep audience encouraged.
