First Generation

Are you the first person in your family to pursue a four-year college degree? By definition, a first-generation college student is a student whose parents did not complete a four-year college education and/or obtain a bachelor’s degree. However, we understand that identifying as first-generation is more complex than that. Some of the members of your immediate family or extended family may have pursued education in various forms; including certifications, trade schools, and associates degrees. Perhaps your parents received a degree from another country. No matter your circumstance, if you identify as a student who needs additional support in navigating your time in college, this is the best place for you.

Explaining the demands of college life to those within your household may be challenging. Meeting the expectations set by those proudest of you may also feel overwhelming. We are here to help.

The Career Development office knows that a college education can enhance career achievement, but only with the right resources and support. Hiring managers are seeking candidates from diverse backgrounds that willingly faced adversity and succeeded. Let us help you share your story.
