ASSISTANT BUILDING INSPECTOR
OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTION & ENFORCEMENT
SALARY RANGE: $44,818 – $63,213 Annualized

This is technical work in enforcing compliance with building codes and ordinances governing building construction, alterations, and repair. Work involves the inspection of buildings and the examination of building plans for compliance with zoning, safety, and related regulations and requirements. Although new or difficult situations may be referred to a supervisor, the employee ordinarily works alone in the field and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical discretion and judgment in inspecting a wide variety of projects.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from high school; and 3 to 5 years experience in the building construction trades including one to three years supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities as stated in the job description, including but not limited to: Considerable knowledge of modern building construction practices, methods, materials, and equipment; Considerable knowledge of building and zoning codes and related laws and ordinances; Knowledge of the principles and practices of modern building inspection programs; Ability to develop a working knowledge of demolition ordinances and related laws and ordinances.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
State of Connecticut certification as an Assistant Building Official or Building Official is required at time of application. Possession of a valid driver’s license at time of application.
