This Project Management Internship will provide an introduction to various aspects of project development in the public transportation industry. The position will perform entry-level professional work including design and construction support activities for transit capital projects including Tampa Bay’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
This internship will last approximately 50 weeks and pay $12.50 per hour, for up to a maximum of 29 hours per week. Project Management Office internships are part-time temporary (commitment to work up to 20 hours per week during the school year) for up to 12 months. Schedules will be designed to accommodate a full-time course load. Additional hours up to 40 hours per week may be available during the summer months.
- Assist in activities within the Project Management Office including project initiation, engineering design, construction;
- Provide technical assistance with transit capital and technology projects including review of design documents, preparation of cost estimates, establish design standards, maintaining project records, field inspection of contract work, etc.;
- Provide technical assistance with plan review of public and private projects related to impacts on public transit assets;
- Assist in preparation of short-term special studies;
- Perform public transportation-related research, including site visits/fieldwork;
- Assist in preparation of maps, graphics and other materials for meetings, reports, etc.;
- Perform peer city/agency research on various public transportation issues;
- Assist in collecting, collating and disseminating data;
- Participate in public meetings on public transportation programs and related issues;
- Work with PSTA and consultants/contractors on public transportation capital projects;
- Coordinate activities with other internal departments;
- Participate in agency meetings with FDOT, regional stakeholders, and other agencies;
- Independently work on assigned tasks and projects;
- Gain an understanding of public transit’s role in Pinellas County, Tampa Bay, and the region;
- Perform other duties of similar nature and level as assigned.

Current graduate student, eligible for graduation no sooner than May 2022 with completed undergraduate/graduate coursework in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Construction Management, or a related field. Past internship/work experience in a professional environment preferred.

- Knowledge of GIS and/or script/macros programming preferred
- Intermediate skill in Goggle Earth Pro preferred
- Inside environmental conditions: Constant 70% (5.5 or more hours)
- Noise: Exposure to intermittent levels above the ambient noise level.
- Hazards: The inside environmental working conditions with protection from weather conditions. There is dust exposure that could affect the occupational health of the employee.
