How the COVID-19 Pandemic Affected my Job.

The times we are currently facing have been one of the most difficult times we have seen, it is unlike any other thing we have experienced. At the beginning of the pandemic I had lost my job, and I was unable to receive unemployment. Finding jobs became very difficult as no place wanted to hire anyone given the circumstances we are living.

During this time, I applied to a few volunteer positions which were held virtually, I was able to find this information by looking on volunteermatch.org, however, there are many websites to seek volunteer opportunities. Never would I have imagined that I would be doing volunteering virtually. I also applied to be a medical scribe and a Pharmacy Technician. After waiting various months CVS Health reached out to me and I am currently working as a Pharmacy Technician. Finding a job during this pandemic can be very difficult however, I encourage all of you to seek opportunities, to go out of your comfort zone and apply for new jobs. Do not get discouraged if you are not called back, many jobs are on a hiring freeze which does not allow them to hire anyone for a certain amount of time.

Sacred Heart University offers many learning and job experiences, reach out to anyone at the Center for Career and Professional Development. I myself have always been in contact with someone in the center however, I have also reached out as President of American Medical Student Association, to seek advice and set up Princeton Reviews for the MCATS. The Center for Career and Professional Development is always here to assist you to strive to become the best version of yourself you can be. It is a place where no matter your major someone will always be here to help. We understand that these times are difficult and that is why we are here to help. We know that virtually we can do so much with the help of all of the students at Sacred Heart University.
